Reduce Your Stress - Make a Positive Change with Bt Corn

Farmers have to deal with many factors that can raise their stress to peak levels. Equipment breakdowns during planting or harvest are two of the worst. Lodged corn due to corn borer and weed infested fields can be equally stressful. Some things you can't control. But when it comes to corn borer problems and weeds, you can make a positive change.

ECB tunnel photoJuly is the time when European corn borer can be found throughout much of the corn belt, tunneling through stalks and ear shanks and even feeding on the grain. This feeding not only reduces yield, (Figure 1) it also predisposes the plant to stalk lodging, dropped ears and ear rot with possible aflatoxin production. Planting the right Bt corn
can reduce your stress by protecting yield, and by producing your crop more efficiently, with less risk and reduced impact on the environment.

Successful crop production requires sound pest management.
Now Damagefinal chartmore than ever, the foundation of successful pest management centers on the seed. N58-D1, for example, not only exhibits outstanding genetic yield potential, it also protects yield and guards against harvest loss. This Bt corn hybrid with YieldGard® insect protection provides excellent control of European corn borer, along with excellent control of leaf feeding and some suppression of ear feeding by corn earworm. In addition, only NK® Brand Bt corn with YieldGard protection has resistance to Liberty® herbicide. And that gives you the LibertyLink® weed control option.

What tools are you using to mitigate stress and drive positive change on your farm? Your NK Brand seed dealer can help you choose the hybrids that give you more options. And that can help reduce your stress.
