Many NK Brand Dealers in the upper Midwest have the NK Brand Agrometer tracking GDUs in their place of business. Many radio stations in the area will also be providing GDU readings courtesy of the NK Brand Agrometer. It’s all part of Syngenta Seeds portfolio risk management. GDU information will help growers manage their corn production more successfully.

The Agrometer measures daily GDU accumulation. The unit is turned on the day planting begins. The unit measures the high and low temperature for the day, calculates the GDUs for the day and automatically adds it to the seasonal total. The LCD in the upper left corner of the Agrometer displays the number of GDUs for the current season. But this is only half the story. Knowing how many GDUs you have accumulated to date will help you determine how far along your crop development is for the season. But it’s like half a basketball score, you don’t know if you’re ahead or behind.
Each Agrometer has a historical database built into it that contains five years of GDU data for every county in the US. By selecting the appropriate state and county location code for the location, the Agrometer logic can now compare current GDUs for the season with the historical data for the county.
Based on this information, Syngenta Seeds agronomic staff can provide additional information about crop progress. |
